DALL-E is an artificial intelligence system that can create images from text captions for a wide range of concepts expressible in natural language. It is not the same as GPT, but it is built upon GPT-3 and GPT-4, which are large language models that can understand and generate natural language or code. DALL-E uses a discrete variational autoencoder to compress images into a 32x32 grid of discrete latent codes, which are then fed into a 12-billion parameter version of GPT-3 trained on text-image pairs.  I think DALL-E is a very impressive and creative system that can generate novel and diverse images from text.
